Welcome to Hillingdon Breast Friends...

Hillingdon Breast Friends (HBF) was set up when the Breast Feeding Subcommittee of Hillingdon Hospital's Maternity Services Liaison Committee decided to do something really special to improve the breastfeeding rate across our borough.

Having already managed to launch a new Breastfeeding Policy and ensure inter-agency cooperation with the Primary Care Trust (PCT) and local council, they decided that a huge step forward for continued breastfeeding would be to offer new mums somewhere to go with their baby - places where they could breastfeed without any qualms, meet other mums, and access support from mums who had experience breastfeeding, and training in helping others.

In early 2008, the project recruited ten local mums, to complete a training course run by Ruth Tamir, IBCLC, and become our first batch of Peer Support Workers (PSW's).

Eight more recently completed their training, and a further ten have begun a new course. Each of these mums will join a rota to provide drop in sessions at various locations across our borough.

We hope to expand our team until there is somewhere mums can go any day of the week for information and support when THEY need it.
